I’m reading a really interesting book at the moment all around having a winning mindset, and what it takes to win. I’m finding it interesting because the more I read the more I’m realising I don’t personally hold the same beliefs around winning. This is great in terms of growth, lean into conversations which you don’t agree with, it can only help to strengthen your own beliefs and values.
The author showcases winning as “not the stuff your dreams are made of, but your nightmares”. It’s the thing that keeps you awake at night, it breaks you….He talks about supressing feelings, to win you need to show no emotion. Move away from your heart, it doesn’t serve you on the path to winning. When you win, you’ll feel good, but then you start back at the bottom of the mountain again on the next mission to winning.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

For me this doesn’t sit well. Why would you chase a goal to only feel good when you reach it? Wouldn’t you rather chase the feelings that the goal represents and feel that way every single day on your journey to reaching that goal?Showing emotion in a game can put you off focus, I get that one. But why not go with your heart and soul whilst chasing that dream? After all in order to chase it in the first place, to become so obsessed as high performers do, you must have followed your heart, soul, intuition, this is where passion comes from. Be guided by your feelings and what feels good.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I 100% believe that we can be soulful high performers. We can be our authentic selves whether as an athlete, musician, entrepreneur, employee climbing the ladder etc., and still win. In fact I think if we focus on being soulful we end up having more wins. This isn’t about moving away from goals, far from it, it’s about making goals with soul, and therefore celebrating all the small wins along the journey to achieving your goal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
